Character Name: Jusis Albarea
Canon: Trails of Cold Steel
Canon History: CS1, CS2, CS3, CS4, Jusis
Canon Personality: 🐎 Looks like a tsundere, talks like a kuudere
🐎 Jusis is usually a pretty calm and chill dude. That being said, he can also come off as very cold and anti-social.
🐎 He's very soft around horses and children. His real friends will also get to see that soft side of his more often.
🐎 Jusis is very loyal to anyone who earns his trust and friendship. Being born in a noble family, he's had to learn that people will try to befriend him for the benefits of having a Great Noble friend, so he keeps people at arm's length.
🐎 He's literally ride or die for Class VII and just about nothing will sway him from them.
🐎 His relationship is, in a word, complicated. In several words, it's a complicated mess of emotions ranging from neglect to emotional manipulation, usually from his father. He thought his older brother was super cool until Rufus betrayed him for the Chancellor seemingly without hesitation, and that completely rocked his entire world in CS2.
🐎 Fighting is a form of flirting, just ask Machias and Rean.
AU Name: N/A
AU Birthday: January 20th (Headcanon)
Faction: The Black Order
AU History: Jusis was born to a single mother who worked at her brother's restaurant in a small town in Dusseldorf, Germany. It was a struggle sometimes, but he would look back on those days very fondly. They lived close to the restaurant, so Jusis would bring books to read there while his mom worked. The other staff would visit him at times and kept an eye on him. Jusis even had a few friends he could hang out with when his mom knew she'd be working longer than normal. By the time he started middle school, he thought he had a pretty good life.
Until it wasn't. In the middle of the school year, he and his mom were visited at their apartment by a couple of people in suits. His mom seemed resigned, but put on a brave face for her son and allowed them to escort the pair to a car with tinted windows. They were brought to the airport where a private jet was waiting for them. Jusis hadn't been sure what to think of it all at the time, and his mom didn't really know how to explain it to him. In the end, she told him that they were going to meet his father in Berlin, but she didn't know why.
The first time he ever met his father was in his office at the top floor of Kreuzen Corp. His father, Helmut Albarea, was the CEO. Jusis would never forget how his father barely even looked at him before having Rufus, apparently his older half-brother, entertain "the brat" while "the adults talked." Rufus, at least, was good enough with children that Jusis took an almost immediate shine to him. That would be very important for him, as his mom broke the news hours later that they would be living with Helmut from now on as a family. Rufus was there to help coach him in how to present himself to the public, at least enough so that his first public appearance on international television wasn't a disaster. He was able to smile convincingly enough for the camera, even if all he wanted was to go home and pretend that he wasn't a major corporation's CEO's son.
His 'debut' to the world alongside his mom was all a show to bring more positive press, as well as to silence some rumors that had been circulating around that time. A fact Jusis would never know about until high school. He kept his distance from kids his age as he transferred into a new private school, especially when he very quickly found out that the majority only wanted to be his friend because of who his father was. Jusis's loneliness was something he ignored in favor of doing as well as he could in his classes, and avoiding any 'social events.' About the only thing he genuinely loved was the equestrian club he joined. He learned how to take care of horses, tack, how to ride for sport and for leisure. His father hadn't cared in the slightest, but his mom and half-brother encouraged him to keep up with it since he enjoyed it so much.
It was during the summer of his junior year of high school that his world was once again shaken to its foundation. Since professing an interest in pursuing law like Rufus, he was allowed to shadow his older brother and learn from observation. On one such day, Helmut came down to have Jusis follow him for the day, as there was something he was required to learn in order to work for Kreuzen. On that day, he learned that the supernatural was real, tangible, and his father was... using (read: abusing) it to either strike down the competition or simply to further his personal goals. It didn't matter if it was animals or people. If it could give him an advantage, he'd use it until it was no longer useful. One of them was a kid around his age, being kept as leverage over some sort of opponent of Helmut's. Jusis wasn't entirely certain. All he could honestly remember was going back to his room numbly, and having a breakdown that resulted in reliving a memory that felt like his, but also didn't. A memory of another boy his age being held in a cell, and helping to break him out with a group of other teens his age and escape.
After that day, Jusis withdrew into himself and applied himself even more to his studies. Whether the memory was real or not, he couldn't stand the thought that his father was not only getting away with it, but his brother seemed to be either ignorant of what he was protecting with the law or aiding and abetting it. He didn't want to think about the latter, so he didn't. Jusis sent out applications to prestigious law schools both in Germany and abroad during his senior year, though it worried his mom and brother with how hard he was working himself. While on winter break, he overheard his brother and father discussing their more covert business, and how they wanted to start working with some group called Krusnik. Jusis didn't stay long enough, though, since there was too high of a risk of getting caught to hear more. Still, it broke his heart to learn that Rufus was in some way condoning what their father was doing. Another memory broke through that day, when someone disturbingly like his older brother betrayed him and aided in burning down a small town in a mountain region. To help clear his head, he left home and went for a walk in Berlin.
During that walk, he was approached by someone with features he couldn't remember. At first, Jusis thought they were completely nuts when they started talking about how they know that he was starting to remember his past life. They promised him that the next time something strange happened, they would be back with an offer that he couldn't refuse. Understandably creeped out by the whole encounter, Jusis took himself back home in a roundabout way in order to hopefully throw anyone off his trail. Whatever those weirdos were, he didn't want them anywhere near his mom.
As it happened, near the end of the school year, another strange thing did occur to Jusis. When he came home from school one day, he found a sword in his room. On asking his mom about it, she told him that he'd always had that sword, which he most certainly never did. He had no idea how to use the thing, but it felt familiar in his hand regardless. Not long after graduation, he was approached once more by a shady person. They weren't taking no for an answer this time. Either Jusis joined The Black Order and lend his power to help their cause, or he was their enemy and no better than his father. Reluctantly, bitterly, he agreed to join the Order.
Out of pure spite, and in a desperate attempt to get as far from his father's side of the family as humanly possible, Jusis decided to study abroad. He managed to convince his father that it would be for their best interest to have him go to their branch in the USA. Since Rufus was set to inherit the business, it only made sense to have Jusis study elsewhere and have a finger on the pulse across the pond. Helmut agreed, and he immediately applied, and was accepted into, Duke University. Jusis was able to convince his mom to move with him, since he had no plans on returning home and he knew that his mom was absolutely miserable here. After some time thinking about it, she agreed. Fortunately and unfortunately, Helmut didn't really care where she went so long as she remained married to him. So, she would stay in one of the Albarea vacation homes.
Jusis devoted himself wholly to studying law with the intent to become a prosecuting attorney. After six, long, grueling years of blood, sweat, and tears, he graduated with honors and passed the bar exam. He began working at a police force as part of a firm unaffiliated with the Albareas, but he swiftly found out that he had to be just as careful with who he befriended here as he did back in Berlin. Some tried to persuade him to neglect key evidence or holes in their case in order to get a conviction. Some even tried to use bribery to sway him to their way of thinking. Most of the work he did was good enough to offset the bad, but Jusis couldn't help coming away jaded and a little disheartened. Still, with this as his persona, he was able to use The Black Order's funding to help get his mom more financially independent so that she could get a home all of her own. At the same time, more weird, supernatural things occurred to him and a few more memories of the friends he wished he had were remembered.
He was around 29 when the Order approached him about a new job. One where certain strange incidents kept occurring in a town called Kaisou. They wanted him there to keep an eye on things and report back his findings. Jusis couldn't really say no, so he agreed and sent in his two weeks notice to the firm, and then applied to the prosecutions office in Kaisou.
AU Personality Differences: 🦄 His mom being his only real support in a massive hellhole that is the Albarea family has helped tremendously in keeping himself from being too bitter. He'll move planets for her if she asked.
🦄 Jusis is still very unsure of his brother's stance. He holds onto the hope that Rufus is simply going along with it until he replaces Helmut. His feelings for his brother are complicated as a result, but he knows he still loves his big brother.
🦄 He's a lot more tired, that's for darn sure.
🦄 Taking a break is for people with healthier coping habits and friends.
🦄 He has a burning hatred for his father. Calls him father to his face and in the public eye, but Helmut when he's safely in private.
🦄 Where Jusis in canon believes that nobles should be more than what they are, this version of Jusis has a more intimate and long-term view into what victims have to go through in the criminal justice system, so he says eat the rich I'm tired.
🦄 That crippling loneliness when he was a teen in Cold Steel 1 is now even worse as an adult! He just ignores it even more.
🦄 Though he now believes that the memories he's remembering are real, he still has moments of doubt and sometimes thinks he's finally cracked from the pressure he's under.
