[His degree of worry for Rean directly scales with how many people that man "needs" to save.]
Heh, I'll take that.
[Oh, but that hot pot is smelling really good, now.]
Hm, from the smell of it, you seem to have kept your culinary skills on point.
no subject
[Elliot no that's not what he means at all-
Speaking of the hot pot, the food should be nearly cooked now. He'll move to stir it a bit more and ladle up a bowl for Jusis]
Haha, sure did! Cooking is something I like to do for stress relief, so I guess it was only natural I improved...
[Considering how stress is an almost constant emotion for him. Yeah. He's a real ace at it]

With how fully you throw yourself into any skill you have a mind to learn, I don't see how you could ever hold anyone back. Whether it's a new instrument, magic, or healing, your best always goes above and beyond. But if you feel like that's not enough, I'll gladly offer to be a practice partner.
[Though, mayyyybe not a music partner. For some reason, that thought fills him with immense foreboding.
Jusis takes the bowl with gratitude.]
I fear my own skills are only passable, which might be an improvement over my past self. Still, it's hard to find the time some days to cook for myself.
no subject
H-Hey, I thought it was Rean's job to get mushy! [GOSH! The smiles on his face does betray that he's flattered though ] Geez...thank you though. Maybe I'll take you up on the practice thing though.
[Not with music though, don't worry. He's burned enough partners through college to realize maybe most people can't handle him]
Eat a lot of take out, in other words? [Sounds about right...] And hey, at least your skills aren't as bad as Millium's! Did you ever recall any of her cooking?
no subject
His speeches apparently rubbed off on me. [Gross, feelings. Still, he's glad it seems to have helped even a little bit.] I'll ensure my schedule is free for you.
[At the question of eating take out, he has the decency to look aggrieved as he nods.]
Take-out, leftovers, frozen food... it depends on what I was able to prepare over the weekend.
[Millium's cooking... only one phrase is recalled about that, and it always fills him with dread, especially with how insanely cheerful she said it.]
'Death tolls in the thousands....' That's about all I remember, and perhaps that's enough.
no subject
[Don't mind Elliot, he's still working on accepting compliments. What is praise and acceptance???]
Oh, well that's not great....on the other hand, it could be worse. My coworker keeps insisting he can survive on beansprouts.
[Please eat real food Yusuke]
Y-Yeah it is. I got a memory of it after one of my students tried to cook me breakfast. [He sighs] Closest I've ever come to feeling what death is like.
no subject
He... what?
[Is eating beansprouts a new cry for help or a depth of weeb / otaku that he's wholly unaware of?
He winces a little in sympathy.]
That is... unfortunate. [Jusis looks away for a moment, as if in thought.] Hm... on thinking about it, the memories I have of Class VII are sparse on details, and a bit more jumbled in terms of timeline. Most of my memories are centered around my past life's family, which I suppose makes sense.
no subject
[Even at his worst he still ate actual food!!! ]
Oh really? Yeah...I guess that does make sense, these memories seem to get triggered on similar stimuli, so if you spent a lot of time with your family... [yeah, that tracks why you'd remember them more]
Eheh, guess that just means you'll have to hang around us more and see what pops up!
no subject
I can understand wanting to grow your own food, but... Not even an herb garden? Is his art truly so important?
[Not to shame since goodness knows Elliot seems like the type to get that way himself, but still....
The less said about his family memories, the better. Maybe. Probably. Hopefully.]
I suppose so. If nothing else, it seems those memories of Class VII were generally happier. [That shouldn't feel like such a foreign concept, but boy does it.] That said, forgive me if I hold onto the vain hope that I won't have those friendship speeches rub off on me.
no subject
I guess so...though I do worry about him. Beansprouts are hardly something a person can live on by themselves.
[Speaking of food,he'll take his own bite of soup while Jusis talks.]
Hehe...yeah, I think you should make your peace with that not happening now. If you want Rean in your life, the friendship speeches are going to be a staple.
no subject
It sounds like abject misery to me.
[Taking the hint, Jusis also starts to eat. Man... it really brings some memories to the forefront of cooking with them in his past life. A strange sort of nostalgia, but not an unwelcome one right now.]
True. Don't tell him, but I did kind of miss those speeches. As corny as they were, they were... uplifting.
[He has an image to keep up, Elliot!]
no subject
[Little does he know the lengths Yuri has gone to resolve this situation.
But truth be told, that's exactly why he choose hot pot. He remembered it being a meal they'd share together sometimes, when they were all together. It was something nostalgic. ]
Ehehe- so you did like them. Don't worry! Your secret's safe.
no subject
[Jusis looks away at that. There's definitely not a slight blush. You're imagining things!]
I didn't say I liked them, but I did miss them.
[Gosh, Elliot, nobody needs to know how much he likes friendship and being reminded of friendship!!!]
no subject
Are you sure? It's a little weird to miss something you didn't like...~
no subject
I simply have morbid curiosity to the depths of his corniness. And how he can come up with such speeches without any preparation whatsoever.
[TOPIC CHANGE—]
At any rate, your hot pot is delicious. I'd ask for your recipe, but I'm afraid my skills would only be a pale imitation.
no subject
Well that, my friend, I'm afraid is one of the great wonders of the world. Even I can't figure out how he does it on demand.
[Because oh yes, he's been on the other end of it MANY times before]
Hehe, thank you! I'm sure you could do just as well though. The trick to hot pot is making sure to have wonderful company to share it with.
no subject
He shakes his head with a wry smile.]
I believe the brilliance of my company is what it is because of the equal brilliance of the host. Truthfully, only my tea brewing skills are anything I can boast about.
[That's not entirely true, but he can certainly brew some excellent teas. Though, now that he thinks about it some more....]
I suppose if you and Rean are willing to suffer through my culinary mistakes, I'd be willing to put more effort into expanding my recipe list. Cooking for other people is motivating in its own way.
[Especially since Jusis doesn't want to embarrass himself in front of his friends.]
no subject
Alright, now you're getting a little mushy. [He says a bit teasingly.]
But hey, don't worry! I'm sure your culinary mistakes will be nowhere near as bad as some mistakes I've to experience. I mean, it's not like you think the shells of eggs are edible, right?
no subject
That's a tad rich coming from our second-in-command of sappy speeches. That being said, we are about to deep-dive into Twitter discourse to see if we can find Regnitz. I think for today we can forgive anything too saccharine.
[That doesn't mean he won't gently tease his friend about it, and he's sure that's the same for said friend. Still! Jusis is going to try to be... uh... openly nice. Just for tonight!!!
Jusis actually shudders at the idea of someone thinking eggshells are edible.]
That's not real, surely.
[He says, when he has prosecuted criminals who have made really stupid mistakes.]
no subject
I'm not second-in-command of that! [Yes, yes he is] And oof- right, I nearly forgot about that. Yeah, probably best to make ourselves feel good before twitter destroys our souls.
[Look he's been having such a nice time just catching up with Jusis it's easy to forget their main mission here. ]
Aha- it's sadly real. A student of mine stayed with me for awhile, and he was very insistent on helping out with cooking and chores. Unfortunately he...didn't know the first thing about doing any of that stuff. [He scratches his jaw] It was a steep learning curve.
no subject
[He sounds a little amused. Honestly, Jusis hasn't enjoyed himself this much in a very long time, so it's quite refreshing for him.
Definitely thinking that box labeled 'Hunter' is this student. It seems rude to him to talk about that on their first real hang out, so he just keeps this tidbit in mind. Plus, as Elliot said, they're going to go through the soul-sucking despair that is Twitter. Best to save it for another time for sure.]
Goodness... I'll consider myself fortunate that my uncle made sure I wasn't quite that hopeless.
no subject
Yeah, we'll see about that. I've heard another gay musician is running Hell these days anyway, so I'm not too worried about how it ends up.
[He says jokingly. This is really nice, getting to relax like this with Jusis. He really needed this. ]
Yeah, I'd say that was lucky you had him ... [Not all uncles were net positives, he thinks to himself. But...yeah. Probably best to leave that can of worms for another time.]
Does your uncle still run a restaurant?
no subject
[He's certainly happy to trade jokes like this. This has been missing from his life, and he's glad to have found it.
Sometimes, blood relations aren't the positive people hope for. Jusis knows that well enough.]
He does, as it happens. Mother had to talk him down from moving locations when my father collected us, though. We did take the time to visit him whenever we could, but that's gotten harder since she and I moved to the States. The best I've been able to do is call him once a week.
[There's a hint of fondness in his tone. Clearly, Jusis's uncle is still a positive influence in his life.]
Do you still have a sister who plays music?
